Regretful is a role modifier that causes a role to die if the targeted player dies. It is inspired by the Hider.

Standard version

If a Regretful role's target dies as a result of an active killing action (e.g. a factional kill or Vigilante shot), the Regretful role will also die.

Variations

A Hider targets someone to hide behind and therefore avoid being able to be killed by active killing actions, as well as becoming vulnerable to dying if the target dies.

Regretful can alternately cause a role to die if a targeted player is targeted by a kill. This makes a Regretful Doctor a Bodyguard though the Regretful Doctor will die if the target was hit by a Strongman kill.

Use & Balance

A Regretful role should avoid targeting someone who is likely to be the scum's factional kill, unless they suspect the setup also contains a Vigilante.

The standardized Role PM for "Regretful" describes the modifier as follows:

  • As a modifier on a single ability: You will die if a player kills the target of this ability. (edit)
  • As a modifier that affects all abilities: You will die if a player kills the target of any of your abilities. (edit)

Example (modifying a single ability)

Welcome to game! You are a Town Regretful Jailkeeper.

You have the following active ability:

  • Each Night, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, that player will be protected from kills that night, but all their actions will be blocked that night. You will die if a player kills the target of this ability.

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.

Example (affecting all abilities)

Welcome to game! You are a Town Regretful Jack of All Trades Tracker Doctor.

You will die if a player kills the target of any of your abilities.

You have the following active abilities, but may use only one per Night:

  • Once in the game at night, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, you will learn who that player targeted that night. (You will get "no result" if this action is blocked.)
  • Once in the game at night, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, that player will be protected from one kill that night.

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.
