A factional ability is an ability a player has by virtue of the faction they belong to, as opposed to being sourced from a power role. The best-known factional ability is the Mafia's nightkill.
If a factional ability is active, it can typically only be activated by one member of the faction each night.
Most games have three factional abilities for each groupscum faction:
- The factional kill;
- Knowledge of the other members of the faction;
- Ability to communicate with the other members of the faction.
Adding other factional abilities is fairly rare, but not unheard of (especially in symmetrical Open setups, where few other tools are available to help balance the game).
