Talk:Metagaming

JEEP: There is a lot of "MetaGaming" that happens in MafiaScum. For example: When I'm Mafia, I will still always follow the optimal strategy for the town, unless I think that the town has no clue, which is rare indeed. I will never encourage the town to do something that is obviously stupid for the following two reasons:

  1. This is one of the easiest ways to find what I term as "intermediate" level mafia players. I have a lengthy article written that should change the game significantly simply by being published... but I won't publish it until my current games are complete (another MetaGame play).
  2. I am ProTown more often than Scum, so it makes sense to increase my win rate by increasing the town's likelihood of winning.

The danger of MetaGaming is that you must stay current with the game. Many of today's tactics will not work in a year and many of last year's tactics won't work today. -JEEP

Wacky: Trust me, it's tempting to encourage an inexperienced town to do stupid things, but it doesn't work, since inexperienced players can get replaced by experienced players who then kill you.

JEEP: True, but that is a different problem with the game. Ideally, there would be no need to have replacements.
