GreyICE's Game FAQs
Purpose
The purpose of this page is to provide a general repository of role-specific questions and answers, in order to facilitate understanding of game mechanics and interactions. It is not intended that the players be left in the dark regarding the interactions of specific roles or mechanics, nor is it intended that the moderator confirm information about the game by answering questions about specific roles and mechanics. Therefore, this document serves as a general guideline to possible roles in a game, and how they will resolve in specific instances.
All answers in this version will be locked in when a game I am running begins. For instance, if your game begins in Version 1.0, and I make updates to version 1.1, the updates and changes will not effect roles in your game. If I am forced, due to moderator error, to change how a role works in a game, all players will be informed of this change. This may mod-confirm information, and therefore I will seek to avoid it at all costs.
Version History
Dates in American Format (MM/DD/YY)
08/12/11 - Version 1.0
General
- All investigative roles will return “No result” if roleblocked.
- No roles that do not return results will be informed if they are roleblocked.
- All kills will share the same flavor (“Killed”). All flavor written by the moderator is for fun, and should not be used to determine any properties of the gamestate.
- Any player with a factional ability and a power granted by a role may not submit both in the same night unless they are the only remaining member of their team.
- In the event that the number of Mafia is equal to the number of town players and no other parties are living, the Mafia will have achieved their victory condition.
- In the event that there an equal number of players from two opposing scum factions and no players with other win conditions left alive the game will end in a draw for both scum factions. Town will lose.
Normal Role Questions
Bodyguard
- In the event that multiple protective roles target the same player, the bodyguard protection will be consumed after any doctor/Jailkeeper protections, but before any Bulletproof protections
- The bodyguard will die when a kill is prevented. No other protective role may stop this.
- The prevention ability of a bodyguard does not count as a redirection, or function as one.
Bulletproof
- Full Bulletproof prevents all kills.
- 1-shot bulletproof may function two ways:
1) The first kill that would resolve on the player consumes the bulletproof
2) One night the player may PM the moderator. For that night all kills submitted on the player are prevented.
- In the event of multiple protections, bulletproofs are consumed last. This includes after bodyguard protects.
Cop
- Results may be effected by the Miller, Framer, or Godfather role
- Results will be “Town” or “Non-Town”
- For normal games, all cops are confirmed sane.
Doctor
- Doctor protection shall prevent one kill on the target.
Double Voter
- Must explicitly post “Double Vote: XXXXXX” In thread to use ability.
Framer
- Framer makes the targeted player return 'non-town' for cops and ‘gun’ for gunsmiths. It does not effect role cops, trackers or watchers.
Godfather
- Godfather does not have to submit the kill.
- Godfather will return ‘Town’ to all sane cop investigations.
- Godfather will return ‘Godfather’ for rolecops.
Gunsmith
- Millers, Cops, Vigilantes, and Bodyguards have guns. JoaTs who possess any of those roles as a 1-shot have guns.
- If a role is a limited use role, and all uses of the role are exhausted, the player will still possess a gun.
Hider
- Hiders will not be killed if their target is targeted by a kill but also protected. They will only die if their target dies.
- Hiders will be killed when they hide behind non-town players. Miller, Godfather, and Framer do not effect this.
- If a player hides, they cannot be tracked, investigated, killed, framed, roleblocked, protected, or otherwise targeted.
- Watchers will still see the Hider visiting their target.
Innocent Child
-This role may come in two forms:
1: The moderator reveals the alignment of the player at the beginnning of the game.
2: The player may PM the moderator at any time and the moderator will reveal the alignment of the player in their next vote count.
- If the innocent child role PM has been posted in the thread by the moderator, it may be quoted freely.
- The Innocent Child may still not quote the PM, including timestamps or other information.
Jack of All Trades (JOAT)
- JOAT will role-cop as possessing any abilities that they began the game possessing whether or not they have been consumed.
- All JOAT abilities will be formatted as limited shot uses of other abilities. Please see the entries for the JOAT abilities for answers to questions for specific JOAT abilities.
Jailkeeper
- The block will resolve simultaneously with the protect. This effectively renders Jailkeepers immune to roleblock.
- The protect functions as a doctor protect, and will prevent one night kill on the target. Additional night kills will resolve unless prevented by other abilities.
Mason
- Masons may talk during the day.
- Masons are alignment confirmed.
Neighbor/Neighborizer
- Neighbors may talk during the day.
Role Cop
- Will return the name of the role that the player possesses if the name is nonstandard. This will not indicate alignment (for instance a mafia Tracker and a Town Tracker would both return ‘Tracker’). Will return ‘Vanilla’ for Vanilla Townies and Mafia Goons.
- Will not return limited shots, night restrictions, or any other restrictions on role (A 1-shot cop, an even-night cop, and a cop will all return "Cop").
- Role cops may have unexpected functionality with Serial Killers. See the 'Serial Killer' Entry for more details.
Roleblocker
- All blocks resolve simultaneously. This means that Roleblockers are effectively immune to roleblock.
- In the event that a Mafia Roleblocker is blocked by a Town Roleblocker, the Mafia Roleblocker will be considered blocked for the purposes of submitting the factional kill.
- Roleblocking the town roleblocker does not prevent the town roleblocker from blocking the mafia night kill, even if the night kill is submitted by another member of the mafia.
Serial Killer
- Serial Killer may possess additional static powers beyond their kill, such as bulletproof or investigation immune.
- Serial Killers will win any endgame that includes them and a single mafia player as the only surviving players. This is indicated in the mafia win condition.
- Serial Killers win if no players survive, including the serial killer.
- If a Serial Killer is role copped, the role cop will receive any special modifiers the serial killer possesses, but will not return serial killer. For instance, a Bulletproof Serial Killer will return 'Bulletproof.' An investigation-immune Serial Killer will return 'Godfather.'
Tracker
- If a player tracks a player who targets multiple players, they will be told all targets (this applies mainly to Mafia power roles when they are the sole remaining member of the team).
Traitor
- The mafia will explicitly be told of the existence of the traitor
- The traitor may be recruited by the mafia submitting a kill on him. If this is done, the player gains access to the Quicktopic, and learns the identity of the mafia.
- The traitor possesses a mafia win condition, and counts for determining if the Mafia make up 50% or more of the town, even if he has not been recruited.
Vigilante
- Vigilante kill submissions are not mandatory.
Watcher
- Watcher will return all players who targeted the chosen player. Watchers will not be told the type of action that occurred.
Non-Normal Role Questions
Backup
The backup may be universal (backs up any role), or may be specifically named.
Nurse - backs up Doctor Deputy - backs up Cop
Other specific backups will be named 'Tracker backup,' etc.
If a role that has a limited number of shots dies and all shots are expended, the backup will not activate.
Neighbors are not a role that may be backed up.
Masons are a role that may be backed up.
Mason Recruiters
- If a mason recruiter targets scum they will die. This death may not be prevented by any protective roles.
- If a mason recruiter targets town, they will form a masonry with the town player. Both players will be confirmed as town.
- If a mason created by a mason recruiter dies, it does not trigger any Universal Backup roles.
Paranoid Gun Owner
- The paranoid gun owner will preemptively submit a kill on players targeting them. If the player targeting them survives this kill, the action will proceed as normal. Otherwise, the action will be considered blocked, and the targeting player will die.
- Limited use PGOs may come in two forms:
1. May choose to become a PGO any night. Each night they choose to will consume one use. For instance, a 2-shot PGO could become a PGO two nights per game.
2. The first N actions targeting them will be treated per PGO rules. For instance, a 2-shot PGO in this format will preemptively kill the first two players targeting him in a night, but subsequent actions on that or any night will resolve as normal.
2a. If the player is targeted multiple times during a night, the uses will be consumed following NAR. For instance, if a 1-shot PGO is targeted by a kill and a cop investigation, he will use his PGO ability on the kill submitter.
2b. If multiple actions in the same NAR layer are used, the PGO will kill all players in that layer. For example, if a 1-shot PGO is targeted by two roleblockers, and those roleblockers are the first actions resolved under NAR he will kill both roleblockers.
- If the PGO is targeted by a hider, the PGO will kill the hider.
