Noir is an Open Setup created by Mathdino as a modification to Hard Boiled, consisting of roles that fit in with the noir fiction genre. This genre features the grizzled private eyes, the heroic gangsters, the corrupt policemen, and more. This modification adds a Mafia Jailkeeper to counter the breaking strategies of the original setup.


Setup


Mechanics

  • Daystart
  • The Jailkeeper blocks all night actions, and may perform the factional kill.
  • The Tracker/Vigilante chooses on Night 1 which role they would like to be.
  • The Hider dies if it hides with a Mafia Goon or a Vigilante, or if the person it hides behind dies.
  • The Detective targets a player and finds out if that player has killed another player or not.
  • The Psychologist targets a player and finds out if they have the potential to kill, but if the player has already killed, the psychologist will get a negative result.

Mafia Goon

  • Welcome, [Player Name]. You are a Mafia Goon, along with [Player Name], a Mafia Goon and [Player Name], a Mafia Jailkeeper.

Abilities:

  • Factional communication: Pre-game and during the night phase you may talk with your partners here [Link].
  • Factional kill: Every night, one of you or your partners may perform the factional kill.

Win condition:

  • You win when all members of the town are dead and at least one member of the mafia is alive, or nothing can prevent the same.

Mafia Jailkeeper

  • Welcome, [Player Name]. You are the Mafia Jailkeeper, along with [Player Name] and [Player Name], Mafia Goons.

Abilities:

  • Factional communication: Pre-game and during the night phase you may talk with your partners here [Link].
  • Factional kill: Every night, one of you or your partners may perform the factional kill.
  • Jail: Every night, you may target a player to jail them. Your target will be unable to perform any night actions that night, and will be protected from a single kill.

Win condition:

  • You win when all members of the town are dead and at least one member of the mafia is alive, or nothing can prevent the same.

Vanilla Townie

  • Welcome, [Player Name]. You are a Vanilla Townie.

Tracker/Vigilante

  • Welcome, [Player Name]. You are the Tracker/Vigilante.

Abilities:

  • Decision: On night one, you must choose whether you want to be a Tracker or a Vigilante. You will remain this role for the duration of the game.
  • Tracker: If you choose Tracker, then on every night (including night one) you may target a player to track them. You will receive a result of either who that person targeted, "No One", or "No Result".
  • Vigilante: If you choose Vigilante, then on every night (including night one) you may target someone to attempt to kill them.

Win condition:

  • You win when all mafia members are dead and at least one town member is alive, or nothing can prevent the same.

Hider

  • Welcome, [Player Name]. You are the Hider.

Abilities:

  • Hide: Every night, you may target a player to hide behind them. If your target is a member of the mafia or the Vigilante, you will die. If your target dies that night, you will die. On nights that you hide, you will be immune to mafia and Vigilante kills.

Win condition:

  • You win when all mafia members are dead and at least one town member is alive, or nothing can prevent the same.

Detective

  • Welcome, [Player Name]. You are the Detective.

Abilities:

  • Investigation: Every night, you may target a player to investigate them. You will receive a result in the form of "Has Killed", "Has Not Killed", or "No Result". If your target is killing the night of your investigation, you will receive the result "Has Killed".

Win condition:

  • You win when all mafia members are dead and at least one town member is alive, or nothing can prevent the same.

Psychologist

  • Welcome, [Player Name]. You are the Psychologist.

Abilities:

  • Diagnosis: Every night, you may target a player to diagnose them. You will receive a result in the form of "Can Kill", "Cannot Kill", or "No Result". If your target has already killed or are killing the night of your diagnosis, you will receive the result "Cannot Kill".

Win condition:

  • You win when all mafia members are dead and at least one town member is alive, or nothing can prevent the same.
