Introduction
Hello, my name is Hoops. You've followed this link because you're obviously interested in me, or my completed games, but for my ego's sake, lets just say it was me specifically. I play mafia because I want to get better at lying and arguing with people. I only have enough time to properly play one or two games at a time, and recently I made my family play mafia in real life with me - they were rubbish. When I have a lot of money, I will build a mafia arena in my yard and host international standard face-to-face games.
Here is a list of likes and dislikes - you have to figure out which is which:
- citrus fruits
- dancing
- rain
- mud
- blood
- needles
- altered sensory experiences
- sleeping
- octopuses
- jazz
- being touched
- loud noises
- hip bones
- cotton

Mini 975: Dirty Dirty South Mafia | Town Jailkeeper |
Killed D2, Lost | This was a swift Deep South game, which saw me killed early in the game. I didn't get to do very much, and my reads while I was alive weren't brilliant, but I did have fun. More mods need to make games with quicker deadlines. |
Mini 973: Bawhston Brawl | Vengeful Townie |
Lynched D6, Won | So, I fakeclaimed Paranoid Gun Owner in my opening post of the game. Initially I received a little pressure, but was largely left to my own devices from D2 onward. It was the biggest pay-off from any gambit I've attempted, as I survived right through to lylo, where I self-voted to trick the last scum into revealing himself by hammering me, and promptly vengekilled him right after, which was a hilarious ending to the game. One of the funnest games I've played - few replacements, high quality of play and excellent modding from yabbaguy. |
Newbie 903 | Town Doctor |
Killed N3, Lost | This was the Fenchurch/Hoopla reunion I was waiting for and it didn't disappoint. We had a good batch of newbies this game, with the quality of play rivaling something you'd see in any other forum. Scum played a professional game, Kristoph in particular fooled me, and once I became confirmed town, my incorrect opinion on her went unchallenged, which turned the last two days into a wild goose chase. Still, this was excellent game, which will stay memorable for a while, for me. |
Mini 962: Mafia in Murrieta | Town Tracker |
Survived, Won | I replaced into this game late on Day 1. Overall, I think the town played a poor game, myself included. But we had some help from the SK taking out a scum on N2, which unraveled the game for us after massclaim and a coordinating of night actions from the remaining PR's. |
Pick Your Power III | Vanilla Townie |
Lynched D4, Won | After scum comprehensively winning the last PYP due to good planning, and even better roles, I helped tweak this set-up to give the town a fresh set of roles. We probably overcompensated a little too far, with powerful inclusions like masons, gunsmith and a weak doctor, which produced another one-sided game, this time in the town's favour. As for my play this game, well, I was wrong with a lot of reads, but I still had fun! |
Mini 941: (Almost) No Rules Mafia | Mafia Vote Freezer |
Lynched D2, Won | This was an interesting game - open rules on cryptography, external communication and other rules were the unique mechanics, although I felt a bit let down by the set-up which tried to do a bit too much. Only one Vanilla townie existed in this game. However, we should have lost this game after we were depleted to one scum on Day 2 after my lynch. Only through a series of blunderous errors and a bit of luck did we manage to win. Awful town play, really. |
Mini 932: Lets All Be Friends | Mafia Roleblocker |
Lynched D5, Lost | This was a curious 2:1:9 set-up, which played out unusually. A massclaim happened on Day 2, which is something I've not seen before in a Mini Normal. Perhaps this was our undoing, as myself and my partner both fakeclaimed information roles. I claimed an FBI Agent after catching (by accident) the SK on Night 1, which made my claim more believable after we managed to lynch the SK. But a lack of contribution from my partner and clever endgame play from a couple of townies saw us lose in a tight game. |
Open 214: Lovers Mafia | Mafia Lover |
Survived, Won | I was Haylen's lover in this game, and any chance of victory was looking unlikely after she managed to get herself wagoned to L-1 quite quickly. Fortunately, a townie (Mindgamer) made a bizarre gambit of 'fakehammering' Haylen, prompting her wagon to dissipate and move on to him. He believed to have caught another townie due to this gambit, which lead to an equally bizarre claim of wanting to self-hammer in order to prove his innocence and then get this townie lynched. Eventually, Haylen and I managed a mislynch elsewhere on a lurking townie and used Mindgamer's incorrect certainty to steal a quicklynch on Day 2. This was a very entertaining game with a good player list, even though we were lucky in winning. |
Mafia 109: A Glitch in Time | Vanilla Townie |
Modkilled D2, Won | This was a speed game, with lynches taking place every 96 hours, which made this an insanely quick game. I shared a player slot with SerialClergyman - there were a couple of other hydra accounts in this game too, which made it fun. Anyway, this was a pretty bad game for both of us - we were completely wrong about the speedwagon on scum D1, and we were modkilled on D2 because I showed the town the quicktopic our playerslot was talking in. In hindsight this was a mistake and a cheap way to make us look innocent - fortunately it didn't cost us too much in the end, with town winning (just) in a 4 player lylo. |
Mini 918: A Hot, Steaming Bowl of Mafia | Day Vigilante |
Lynched D2, Won | I shot Sotty7 on Page 3 of this game, hoping I would get lucky and hit someone evil to really rattle the mafia early. It didn't work, but it wasn't costly, especially after we lynched scum on D1. What was costly, was me fakeclaiming tracker on my prime target to try and get them to claim visiting the corpse, giving me a free scum kill on D2. However, this backfired and resulted in outing a tracker, and getting myself speedlynched by scum. It was not a bad result though, confirming a townie and incriminating those who wanted me dead so quickly. The town then lynched scum two days in a row making up for my mistakes. |
Teleportation Mafia | Vanilla Townie |
Lynched D3, Lost | I replaced into this game after 40 pages, which was a nightmare. Combine that with a parallel universe with players chopping and changing frequently, it made it hard to keep up for many players, which led to a fairly apathetic town. Teleportation is an interesting concept, but it requires a lot of time invested from each player. |
Pick Your Power II | Mafia Goon |
Survived, Won | I've probably said this a couple of times about other games, but I mean it most here - this was my favourite game I've played in! The game operated around a draft system where players bid for the roles they wanted. Our team was lucky enough to capture the 1st pick and took a gamble to take cop instead of vig (which we picked up with our 7th pick). We also drew a couple of other very powerful scum roles, which allowed for some creative gambits later in the game. I pushed number analysis theories early in the game, which proved to be effective distancing from Socrates, who was our only casualty of the game (fakeclaiming a guilty cop result on a townie). The roles available to the players perhaps favoured scum overall, but there was some less than inspiring town play that helped speed up the process. But despite 3-4 heavy lurkers, the game moved at a quick pace, and was one of my best experiences on mafiascum. I need to persuade SpyreX to run another one! |
Mini 909: Nice'n'Fun Mafia | Mafia Goon |
Survived, Won | I fakeclaimed miller on Day 1 in this game. Why? Because I thought I could get away with it. As it happened, the town suffered a nasty policy lynch on Quagmire (for not reading his role PM) and flipped CPR which is essentially a vigilante. I think that scared the town away from policy lynching me too, and combined with some meta about Vi reviewing the set-up (one of Vi's games featured a miller with no cop) gave me a very safe looking claim. Hitogoroshi and Faraday were my scum partners who played very well, and in the end we secured a perfect scum victory. |

Mini 892: Mayor Mafia | Vanilla Townie |
Lynched D2,Won | I entered this game to play specifically with SerialClergyman, who featured in Commie Mafia a few weeks earlier. Four others from that game followed us in, shaping it up to be a fun game. However, I fell behind early after my internet time was slashed and didn't play very well. I was lynched D2 and came away with an undeserving win - the rest of the town played very well, and made good use of the mayor mechanic in this game. |
Mafia 105: Caught in the Crossfire | Vanilla Townie |
Killed N1, Lost | This was one of my better games, despite being killed off N1 (and losing). I suppose that's the job of the vanilla townie though - absorbing the kill to protect the powerroles. There were a lot of good players involved in this game, and activity spiralled on the first day causing a few players to drop out because of the pace. I had fun though! |
Mini 869: Frat Party Mafia | Vanilla Townie |
Killed N2,Lost | I replaced into this game on D2, which unfortunately featured some pretty nasty lurking. I tried to perk everyone up and did even managed to lynch a scumbag, before being killed off on N2. The town didn't really deserve to win this game, but it was fun bossing everyone around. |
Mini 865: Evil Eyes | Mafia Goon |
Killed N1,Won | Although I was killed off early by a vigilante, I played well enough to not leave any obvious clues to who my partners were, and got a mislynch or two out of it. I was lucky enough to have two very competant scum buddies who finished the game off quite easily. |
Mini 863: Space Station Mafia | Town Doctor |
Killed N5, Lost | Facing a 3:9 set-up with myself being the only powerrole, a couple of modding errors helped confirm two townies giving us a decent chance. However, being a closed set-up I placed way too much stock in the game being balanced which led the town to underestimate the amount of scum we had left. Despite losing, I feel like this was some of my best play - I was responsible for orchestrating the scum lynch on Day 1 and rarely came under suspicion for a lot of the game. |
Mini 837: Stratego Mafia | Town Vigilante |
Lynched D3, Lost | This was probably my favourite game so far, for a couple of reasons. One, I was a vigilante (yay), and secondly because I love stratego! I'm not usually overly interested in theme games, but the roles and mechanics for this was great. It was an evenly poised game going into Day 3 after a vigged a scumbag the previous night. But with the double kills each night, I claimed vigilante (which I'm still unsure if I should have), and was subsequently lynched out of fear I was an SK. The Marshall (Vaya), ran away with the win after some odd town play at the end. I'd love to see another stratego game run some time, so if you make one, tell me please. |
Mini 836: Commie Mafia | Mafia Roleblocker |
Killed N4, Lost | This was the most intense Mini Normal I've played here - 60+ pages over 2 months with a quality player list. It was very mentally draining, but this is probably the game I am most proud of my play (despite losing). After some heavy bussing by myself and my other partner (cyberbob), we went mostly undetected until the fourth day, where our entire game just fell apart after we botched our fakeclaims during massclaim. It was probably that event that cost us the win, which was pretty crushing after putting in so much effort. So much effort unravelled by one piece of play. Oh well, a big lesson was learnt. This was a really fun game though, with active, and clever players. I'd love to play with them all again. |
Newbie 822 | Town Cop |
Lynched D3, Lost | This was the first game I've IC'd in the newbie forum, and after a series of replacements toward the end of the game, it felt like a normal game - with 4 of the last 6 players being pretty experienced. I was a cop this game again, and was lynched out of fear I was fakeclaiming when I claimed on D3 with two innocents. We were in lylo, and it was deemed an opportunistic move, despite lynching me being a sub-optimal choice for the town. The scum played this one well though. |
Open 158: Vengeful | Vengeful Townie |
Lynched D3, Lost | Fun game, probably went on a little too long for a vengeful. Not my proudest either - I had some early success finding the goon, who was eventually lynched on D1. But I was unable to prevent my death after all evidence pointed to me as the Godfather, thanks to some clever distancing from the real Godfather. I was wrong with most of my reads this game. |
Mini 813: Korlash Town | Vanilla Townie |
Lynched D4,Lost | Witty flavour from Korlash kept this game interesting after it fizzled out after Day 2. I suppose some of it is my fault, but there was quite a bit of lurkiness. My D1 case on a town player (kravhen) was stellar, and about as good as I've ever made for a D1 case. It's a shame it was completely wrong - it just goes to show town contradict themself sometimes too. I had fun though! |
DHSDSM: Alpha | Vanilla Townie |
Lynched Action Phase 6, Lost | This game was run in conjunction with DHSDSM Beta, with the same players featuring in both games. Due to it being twice as much time invested, everyone played in a Hydra account. Ortolan was my buddy, and we took it in turns to post. I played most of the early game, while ortolan finished off at the end, getting us lynched. The game had dynamic phases of play with instant resolution of roles. And with phases passing very quickly, it was a very intense game. |
DHSDSM: Beta | Mafia Godfather |
Endgamed Action Phase 7, Lost | Beta was clearly the evil twin of alpha, with different rules regulating the action phases. They were post-based which acted as a demotivation for town to post, and eventually spiralled into bad lurking and massive wall-posts. It wasn't fun, and fortunately, my buddy ortolan carried the hydra for the second half of this game. It felt very difficult to win too, with 2 SK's and another mafia team to contend with. We lost our partner to an errant SK kill and had no chance from then on. Interesting concept though, from Adel. |
War in Heaven 2: Spirit of Vengeance | Loyal Cherub |
Lynched in the Thirteenth Æon?, Lost | Wow, this was a pretty amazing game. > 4000 posts in under a month says something. The mechanics of the game was fun, and despite dying early, I followed this game all the way through. Players like Xyl, DrippingGoofball, ABR, populartajo, roflcopter clashed a lot, and it almost seemed like a game in itself to see who could lead the town. Everyone wanted to do their own way of dealing damage, which ultimately cost the town. A great game though! |
Mini 761 | Vanilla Townie |
Lynched D4, Lost | I replaced into this game on N2, after a string of town deaths. The town really got a little too preoccupied with the set-up possibilities more so than actual scumhunting, which perhaps hurt us, particularly when it turned out we were completely wrong (in fairness the mafia were quite overpowered, which screwed up assumptions based on balance). I don't think I gave this game my all unfortunately, as I had a few real life interferences, which subsequently saw me lynched on D4 and lost us the game. |
Mini 747 | Vanilla Townie |
Endgamed, Lost | Bawww, I lost another game for the town with an incorrect decision in lylo. What rubbish. To be fair, the scum played quite well this game, and I happily admit to having the wool pulled over my eyes. I think I need to spend a little bit more thinking time in lylo from now on. |

Newbie 705 - Oh God My Newbies! | Vanilla Townie |
Killed N1, Won | I replaced into this game quite early, and didn't make it through the night after zoning in on a scumbag D1. Despite the lurking from both IC's of this game, the town won quite easily with some quality play by Spolium and Fenchurch who I really wish to play with again one day. |
Mafia 88: Return to New Catania | Paramedic (One-Shot-Doc) |
Killed N3, Lost | For me, this was a disappointing game after starting with such a quality player list. The amount of lurking by some, replacements and quote pyramids from BM was frustrating - not to mention basic modding errors from MafiaSSK who bungled my protection on an outed cop. This game also had two scum teams, which means balance already depends on cross-kills. We didn't get one until N5 which was tough for the town, but I was long dead since then so it was okay by me. It was almost enough to turn me off the larger games due to the length and amount of replacements needed. |
Mini 691: Welcome to Cape Town | Vanilla Townie |
Endgamed, Lost | After lynching scum on Day 1 and 2, the town really should have won this. Some clever bussing by Knight of Cydonia kept the last scum, Simpor, alive for long enough for me lose the game for the town. On D4 with 6 players alive, a nearly confirmed vig, and me confirmed as town, I basically forced everyone to follow my plan, where I'd set up the next 3 kills. It didn't work, needless to say! |
Newbie 689 | Town Cop |
Survived, Won | This was actually my first mafia experience online which resulted in hilariously bad, but effective play by me. I investigated a scumbag (makemeameteor) on N1, and thought I would attempt to catch out the second one by lying about my result. I claimed to get a guilty result on MafiaSSK who I was harbouring suspicion for (little did I know he is a reknowned lurker). If he was in fact mafia, I presumed he would counterclaim me, thus revealing himself as mafia. If he didn't then he was town, and I would confess my true result and accept being lynched for lying, which would then psuedo-confirm MafiaSSK and incriminate makemeameteor. The funny bit was, MafiaSSK lurked for the next 5 days and over9000_ for some reason claimed cop, revealing himself as the second mafioso. I then revealed my plan to a sceptical town, and eventually had makemeameteor lynched, as well as over9000_. A win is a win though! |
Newbie 671 | Mafia Goon |
Survived, Won | I replaced into this game on N1 after having the game almost dead from inactivity on D1 - my partner was lynched as a result of this, and I had to survive by myself until endgame. The slot I inherited didn't come under much scrutiny despite being a heavy lurker early and offering nothing posts. I set Magpie up to be mislynched on D3, who had been tunneling quite hard on Erratus Apathos. Once he flipped town I used his case against EA in lylo which almost backfired. This was my first game as scum, and I was super nervous. |

Mini 820: The Seaside
- Town
- Role-Cop x2
- Doctor
- Townie x7
- Mafia
- Role-cop
- Goon
- Result
- Mafia win
This was the first game I've hosted, and I decided on a closed 2:10 setup to emphasise the day game rather than what happened at night. The roles I chose were there to detract away from the boring vanilla feel of a mountainous set-up, but weren't powerful enough to confirm innocents at any stage. I'm impressed with the town for not falling into the trap of lynching through the list of claimed role-cops, but scum played this game well. They won in a 3-player lylo, with a vanilla townie choosing incorrectly between a town and scum role-cop. I'm satisfied with my first modding experience and would like to thank all the players that participated.
Mini 956: The Quayside
- Town
- Confirmed Masons x2
- Weak Doctor
- Role-Cop
- Townie x5
- Mafia
- Roleblocker x2
- Goon
- Result
- Mafia win
This was my follow up Mini Normal, which resulted in a perfect scum win, although the result skews how close to unraveling the game the town was. An impromptu massclaim occured late on Day 2 after the first three major bandwagons led to town PR claims. Two of the scum gambled with fake vigilante claims, and despite one kill happening the first two nights, they were never pursued. Detached play from the masons incriminated them, and set-up symmetry with the claimed vigs, with the town accepting there must be too much power, yet still lynched from the small pool of vanillas. Goatrevolt was stellar, despite being wrong about several of his reads, but it was the ad-lib claims from Ectomancer and McGriddle that won it for the scumteam.
A lot of thought and discussion with several players went into the design of this set-up. I included roles that offered chances to confirm town, with slim chances (outside massclaim) to confirm, which seemed like a more organic way to improve lynch odds. Confirmed and semi-confirmed players naturally narrow the lynch pool, without boxing scum in completely, which I deem more favourable than roles capable of confirming scum. The double roleblocker was a twist designed to encourage flambouyant scum gambits, such as possible counterclaiming. I was also worried about the potential confirming power of the Weak Doctor, so giving the scum an extra roleblocker would be a way to neutralise this power and water down the results. The role-cop was included to confirm town power, and possibly catch scum fakeclaiming in a massclaim, as there was a strong chance they wouldn't all claim their true roles. The roles were intricately laced together, which had the power to confirm each other in a massclaim - was another reason to include a second roleblocker. Conversely, masons were included as a failsafe for town if the scum killed the Weak Doctor and Role-Cop too quickly, as their roles weren't able to be blocked.
Initially I deemed the set-up slightly town favoured, so I was quite surprised when scum managed three successive mislynches. A significant part of this was the rushed massclaim late on Day 2, after the town burned through too much of the deadline time doing very little. Again, I'd like to thank everyone that played. There were zero replacements and the game was played to a very high standard.
