i don't like the wording for ' was killed by the <variable> '... i removed 'the' b/c if there is more than 1 of the variable, i.e. 2 SKs in a game, then how do you know which one 'the' refers to?..

- "...was killed by Mafia" or "...was killed by Serial Killer" is awkward, poor grammar. I just made a special case for "lynch". I just want this to be easy to read. I guess I still have a lot of work to do. SigmaEpsilon (talk) 16:32, 23 August 2007 (MDT)
- again, if there are 2 (or more) Serial Killers in a game, "was killed by the Serial Killer" is not correct, and gives the false impression of there being only 1 Serial Killer. my suggestion would be to leave this out of the Timeline, and if somebody reading the game page wants to see HOW they were killed, they can go to that specific portion of the page, and view either the night choices, or the vote count... IMO, the timeline should only be the player and their role, i.e.

- Could you please describe (here on the talk page) all possible types of death? Are there any others besides the three examples (and Vigilante)? SigmaEpsilon (talk) 16:34, 23 August 2007 (MDT)
- the purpose of the Timeline is to show who died when, not how they were killed... that information is saved for the night choices... a lot of games don't tell how a person was killed until the end of the game, especially games w/ multiple roles (i.e. Mafia, Vigilante, Serial Killer). list all the possible types of death?... teehee, there's too many to count, and we're coming up w/ new ones all the time... again, Night Choices is the appropriate place for this, not timeline...
-- LyingBrian 16:44, 23 August 2007 (MDT) - ... then why did you add method of death to {{prole}} in the first place?! SigmaEpsilon (talk) 17:01, 23 August 2007 (MDT)

- i was trying to accomodate for it if we decided to keep it, i just never voiced my opinion on it until now... it wasn't until i saw your "Lynched: Fiasco - Townie" that i even thought about mod, so i had to think about it for awhile... honestly, we need more input from other people... 2 people having a discussion about what 'should' and 'shouldn't' be for a wiki that encompasses thousands of players isn't a fair representation of the whole, IMO... some of my opinions are just wacky, some of them are justified, but w/o other people weighing in, it's hard to get perspective...

- i'm beginning to think <srole> is unnecessary... if the player is a Insane Cop, then that's his role... when i first created the 'sub-role' it was b/c i wanted the main role 'Cop' to come first, then the sub-role 'Insane' to come second... that was probably a bad idea & unnecessary... also, i think "a" before the role is unnecessary, and can be confusing as well as bad grammar... especially w/ 'Mafia'... <LyingBrian, a Mafia> doesn't make much sense... however, <LyingBrian (Mafia)> makes more sense, IMO, and works w/ all roles...

- The whole point of this template is to create an English sentence describing a "death scene". srole is necessary to link the roles properly. SigmaEpsilon (talk) 08:16, 24 August 2007 (MDT)
- i think it might be better to think of it as a headline, than a complete sentence... again, <LyingBrian, a Mafia> doesn't make much sense... <LyingBrian (Mafia), lynched.>, serves the purpose of identifying who was killed, their role, and how they died w/o having to worry about the 10,000 different variables of their role and/or how they died...
-- LyingBrian 22:08, 24 August 2007 (MDT)- That's what {{prole}} is for. This template makes sentences. I can worry about programming it. Only the most common deaths will have pre-set text. The editors can always put whatever text they want, instead of the pre-set text. Roles like "doctor" and "cop" should have an article in front of them. So far, only "a Mafia" seems to be the problem. That can be fixed simply by making the template tack on "member". SigmaEpsilon (talk) 00:27, 25 August 2007 (MDT)

Well... I finally got the switch to work. The template now gives a customized message based on the method of death. I added a "default" option. If the mod wishes to hide the manner of death, they can just leave that part of the template blank. Once the game has ended, the mod can fill in the correct killer (if he wants to).
