Second Thoughts Mafia is a series of Marathon games that Cook ran both Marathon Weekends in 2021. The setup evolved over time.
Incarnation One - Second Thoughts Mafia (5p)
2 Scum
3 Town
Nightless. Scum are informed but don't get a PT.
When a player is hammered they propose an alternative elimination. Votes are wiped and locked to those two.
If scum is eliminated, Town win.
If town is eliminated, Scum win.
Optimal Strategy
So long as the mod doesn't automatically end the game when it is impossible for town to win, it is always optimal to not switch. This gives town a 40% chance to win as compared to a 30% chance to win. Basically, if you switch, you only win 3/5 * 2/4 of the time whereas not switching means you win 2/5 of the time.
Incarnation Two - Third Thoughts Mafia (5p)
2 Scum
3 Town
1 Jester
Discard one card.

Incarnation Three - Fourth Thoughts Mafia* (6p)

1 Town Vengeful
Discard one card.

If scum is eliminated, Town wins.
If town is eliminated, Scum wins.
If jester is eliminated, Jester wins.
If vengeful is eliminated, they get to venge someone. That flip determines the win.
*This setup was also used in Sixth Thoughts Mafia.
Incarnation Four - Fifth Thoughts Mafia (6p)
4 Town
1 Vengeful
2 Scum
2 Jesters
If Town is eliminated, Scum win.
If Scum is eliminated, Town win.
If a Jester is eliminated, that Jester wins.
If the Vengeful is eliminated, they may submit a venge shot. If it's Town, Scum win. If it's Scum, Town win. If it's a Jester, the Jester wins.
Discard 2 cards, 1 publicly.
Incarnation Five - Seventh Thoughts Mafia (8p)
5 Town
1 Vengeful
2 Mafia
2 Werewolves
1 Jester
Discard 3 cards, 2* publicly.
If a Townie is hammered then the Town loses and the others win.
If a Mafia is hammered then the Mafia lose and the others win.
If a Werewolf is hammered then the Wolves lose and the others win.
If a Jester is hammered they vengekill someone and wins. That team loses and the others win. The Jester cannot win by survival.
If a Vengeful is hammered they vengekill someone. That team loses and the others win.
*In the original setup, only 1 was supposed to be discarded publicly. However, Cook revealed 2 by mistake.

Fourth Thoughts was won by jester in configuration (2 town, 2 scum, 1 vengeful, 1 jester). Aristophanes AGAIN with the solo win.
Fifth Thoughts was won by scum in configuration (3 Town, 1 Vengeful, 1 Scum, 2 Jesters). Petapan was the Solo winner.
Sixth Thoughts was won by scum in configuration (2 Town, 1 Vengeful, 2 Scum, 1 Jester). SirCakez and Grumpy Cat were the winners.
Seventh Thoughts was won by town and scum in configuration (3 Town, 1 Vengeful, 2 Mafia, 1 Werewolf, 1 Jester). T3 was the only loser.
