Lyncher Mafia is an open setup game devised by mathcam. It's particularly popular on scumchat.
Roles
- 1 Mafia Goon
- 1 Lyncher
- X Vanilla Townies (where X>1)
Mechanics
- One of the townies (but not the mafia) will be randomly designated the Lyncher's target (or Lynchee), and will be known only to the Lyncher.
- The Mafia wins when only he and one other player are alive.
- The Lyncher wins, and the game ends with no other winners, if the town lynches the Lynchee, when the Lyncher is still alive.
- The Town wins when both the Mafia and Lyncher are dead, or when the Mafia is dead, and the Lynchee has been killed at night.
- Typically the game only ends in a Draw when the Lyncher and the Lynchee are the last two people alive.
- The game starts with day, which then alternates with night.
- During the day, a simple majority is needed to lynch or not lynch. However, typically (especially on scumchat) the town is not allowed to vote to lynch no one.
- During the night, the Mafia makes a kill choice if he is still alive. If not, nothing occurs, and day follows immediately.
- The moderator reveals the role of every player who dies, but not whether a player was the Lynchee. (The obvious exception is if the Lynchee is lynched when the Lyncher is still alive, as this ends the game.)
- If the Lynchee is killed in the night, the Lyncher becomes a Townie and wins with the town. Note that the moderator does not reveal whether the Lyncher has become a Townie.
Variations
- One variation is having No Lynch as a possible Lynchee. This means that if the town votes for no lynch, then the Lyncher will win.
- Sometimes the Mafia can be a possible Lynchee.
- Another variation is if the Lynchee is nightkilled, then the Lyncher will stay anti-town but can no longer win the game unless he is left with one townie at the very end.
