Triggered is a role modifier that alters or activates a portion of the role after some criterion has been met. For instance, upon a certain ingame trigger a player may gain a new ability or change their Win Condition.
The player's degree of knowledge about a Triggered role can vary. Players may have full knowledge of their triggers, or they may be aware their role has a trigger but not what the trigger is. In Theme games, players may not be directly told that their role has a trigger, but may have clues in the flavor that hint at it. Games with Hidden triggers are considered Bastard if there is no warning to the player, and may also be Bastard if the clues offered to the player are insufficiently clear. In addition, all triggers that change a role's Win Condition are Bastard.
Nurse, Deputy, and all other passive Backup roles are Triggered roles. An example of a Theme Bastard Triggered role would be one of a husband/wife Town duo who becomes a Serial Killer should the other one die.
