A Lynchee is a player who is the target of a Lyncher; the Lyncher will win if the Lynchee dies.
Standard version
If a Lynchee is lynched, the corresponding Lyncher will die and leave the game. This role is never used without a corresponding Lyncher.
The standard version of this role is Hidden, and not listed in the role PM (the role PM below is for the self-aware variant of the role).
Variations
Lynchees can be of any group alignment, town or scum (making them third-party would be even more bastard than the Lyncher role itself), and might have a separate power role in another respect. They tend to show up only in flavored games where it makes sense for a Lyncher-Lynchee relationship to exist.
Although Lynchees are normally unaware of that status, self-aware Lynchees do exist.
The name is very occasionally used for a Jester (who is effectively a Lyncher who is their own Lynchee).
Use & Balance
If you have to use a Lyncher at all, you should typically balance the game assuming that they succeed in getting the Lynchee lynched (unless power roles save them). Thus, a Lynchee is a good choice for a role that would become overpowered if it survived too long.
Play Advice
If you're Town-aligned, and know that you're a Lynchee, there's not much reason not to claim; it's better that the town know that someone is trying to get you lynched, rather than drawing incorrect conclusions from thinking you're scum. That said, you may well end up being lynched anyway; town don't know that you're town-aligned, and lynching you gets rid of scum. (That said, as long as you're alive, a Lyncher will do anything to prolong the game, so you may want to point out that keeping you alive until all the groupscum are dead is the best way to ensure that the Lyncher's vote is used to prevent scum winning.)
Sample Role PMs
The standardized Role PM for "Condemnee" describes the passive ability as follows:
- As an unmodified passive ability:
A Condemner will win the game, leaving it, if you are eliminated via the Day vote.
(edit)
- As a passive ability with a modifier:
A Condemner will win the game, leaving it, if you are eliminated via the nth Day vote OR the Day vote on day n.
(edit)
Example (unmodified)
Welcome to game! You are a Town Condemnee.
A Condemner will win the game, leaving it, if you are eliminated via the Day vote.
You have no active abilities.
You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.
Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.
Example (modified)
Welcome to game! You are a Town Odd Day Condemnee.
A Condemner will win the game, leaving it, if you are eliminated via the Day vote on an odd-numbered day.
You have no active abilities.
You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.
Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.
