About Mish Mash Points

I began calculating MMPs in March, 2010. After coming up with the system, I went back to all the games I've moderated, both completed and abandoned, and included them into the scoring.

MMPs are awarded in any Mish Mash games I've moderated. However, they are only awarded in games where players are competing against each other and a ranking system can be used in the game. Because of this, Blood Sword cannot be calculated into MMPs; the game did not have players competing against each other.

MMPs are calculated by the finishing rank of each player. Each player that plays in the game receives MMPs. The higher a player finishes, the more MMPs awarded. The formula for calculating MMPs is here. In the equation, n is the number of players, k is the finishing rank, and b is either 100 (game completed) or 50 (game abandoned). This formula allows higher scores for better ranks in completed games with more players.

If players finish with the same final score, they will receive points based on the highest rank of the group. For example, if the third and fourth players finish with the same score, they will receive points for a third-place finish.

If a game is abandoned, points will be given based on the scores at the time of abandonment. If there is no discernible way to determine placings, everyone will receive points based on the average of all MMPs that would have been given.

Players that attempt to enter a game and are not chosen will receive 15.50 points for completed games and 13.50 for abandoned games. This gives players an incentive to join the game, even if they are not chosen, and rewards players that attempt to enter the games.

Yearly Scores

For each calendar year, scores will be calculated for any game that begins during the calendar year. If a game starts in a year and finishes in another year, the scores will be added to the year the game started.

For Yearly Scores, only a player's top five scores will be used. If a player earns points in more than five games, any points after the fifth-highest will not be added into the scores.

2010

There are currently three games eligible for the 2010 MMP Tournament. Two of these games are still playing; one game has been completed.
