A Restless Spirit is a player who is allowed to Vote after death. The player may not use other words, loses all other abilities, and can't be targeted with abilities.

Generally, the cause of the player's death does not matter in determining the player's ability to vote.

Standard version

A Restless Spirit is a player who may post naked votes even after death. They may not post content other than votes.

In order to standardise the interaction with other roles, the timing of when the votes can be made should be specified explicitly using a role modifier. (The default timing for most roles is to be able to use the role once each Night. This could be implemented for a Restless Spirit, allowing them to vote once each Night and have the vote affect the next Day; but this would be unusual in practice, so typically a Restless Spirit is permitted to use their ability more often than usual, usually during the Day.)

Variations

This ability may be limited to a certain number of days or may continue until the game is over.

A Restless Spirit is typically limited as to when they are allowed to post their naked votes e.g. only one vote every 24 hours or only one vote every Day phase.

When a Restless Spirit votes during the day, they may be required to submit votes outside of the thread to prevent sending messages to the living players via the timing of their votes or coded messages in their vote patterns. The variations here are comparable to other Day roles such as the Day Vigilante; some moderators have the role used via private message, others have it used publicly in thread.

This role may be disabled in MeLo and ELo to avoid effectively having an untouchable Innocent Child who can't speak but can still post naked votes.

Use & Balance

The Restless Spirit has no special abilities to help in finding anti-town players, but other than the inability to speak, a dead Restless Spirit effectively becomes an unkillable player whose alignment has been publicly revealed. This makes the Restless Spirit especially powerful at the end of a game.

Sample Role PMs

The standardized Role PM for "Restless Spirit" describes the action as follows:

  • As an active action: after you are dead, you may cast a vote as though you were alive. (edit)

Example (simplest form)

Welcome to game! You are a Town Restless Spirit.

You have the following active ability:

  • Each Night, after you are dead, you may cast a vote as though you were alive.

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.

Example (with modifiers)

Welcome to game! You are a Town Day Restless Spirit.

You have the following active ability:

  • Each Day, after you are dead, you may cast a vote as though you were alive.

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.
