| ==CamelCase== | | ==Wiki Block Too?== |
| I saw you camelcased the comingsoon template for readability. You don't need to do that. The new wiki software allows for spaces in names so we can write articles with regular capitalization of links. Also, even if an article is titled [[Mason]], [[mason]] will link to it just fine. We probably should encourage people to quit camelcasing now the software no longer needs it. - [[User:Mgm|Mgm]] 04:55, 30 January 2007 (MST)
| | So why block MMM from the wiki too? What harm can he do to the wiki as he is not a sysop? I do fully agree with the idea if they were a sysop but otherwise it makes no sense.--[[User:MafiaSSK|MafiaSSK]] 20:09, 2 June 2010 (EDT) |

| * Will [wiki] tags on the forum point here?

| * Is the picture set in stone? Why not have the forum logo?
| |
| * Why can't we upload (not complaining as such, I'd just be interested in the reasons)

| * Who are the sysops and what are their powers (I know what a sysop is)?
| |
| * Is it OK to pester you with these sorts of questions?

| ok, one reason i think you may have it set up this way is so that when people want to leave you a message like this one, they just edit your discussion page... but you could have your [[Talk:Mr. Flay]] page redirect to your [[User talk:Mr. Flay]] page... (that's how i set mine up)... the only reason this bugs me is when someone is browsing through the '''''Category:Scummers''''' page (and other similar pages), your name appears under 'M', but it's listed as [[User:Mr. Flay]]... it just bugs me, b/c everything under 'M', should start w/ 'M', not 'U', but that's just me... i didn't want to edit your page in case you had a reason, so yeah...

|
| |
|
| i'm confused... the word "userpages" seems to have two different meanings in the 1st & 2nd paragraphs... in the first paragraph you use the word "userpages", which i interpreted for me would be [[User:LyingBrian]], which makes sense in context, but in the second paragraph you said "I'd like to see people move their userpages to the user namespace.", in context, i would read that as moving [[LyingBrian]] to [[User:LyingBrian]], but based on the usage of the word in the 1st paragraph it reads as [[User:LyingBrian]] to [[LyingBrian]], so i'm not sure which you meant... i'm really not trying to be picky, but i can't figure out which you meant, and my reply will change based on what you meant, so... lol, i'm sorry i can be so technical sometimes, i hope i'm not frustrating you...

| <blockquote>Heh, no problem. Yeah, what I mean is that userpages should ideally be at User:Whatever, with a redirect/link from Whatever. For the old wiki, there were no namespaces to worry about, so everybody got into the habit of making their page at their name, and that's how they got moved over. The terminology I'm using is far from precise, it's not your fault. (I'm trying to use "userpage" for User:Whatever and "username page" for Whatever). -- Mr. Flay 15:22, 13 August 2007 (MDT)</blockquote>

|
| p.s. i tried to use the title ''player'' to refer to a username on the MafiaScum forums, and ''user'' to refer to somebody contributing to MafiaWiki...
| | thats a good qestion why are they attcking me????????????????????????????? |
|
| |
|
| i believe i agree in concept, but disagree in content... for example on Wikipedia, '''''Mr Frosty''''' is a ''user'' on Wikipedia who has a 'userpage' located at [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Mr_Frosty http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Mr_Frosty] which is separated from the 'articles' on Wikipedia by the "User:" namespace...
| | ==Cheers!== |
| | Thanks for fixing up that newbie game stuff, I'm still pretty new to this wiki edit job. I'd like to get into it more, got any suggestions or links that are great for practical knowledge?--[[User:Oman|Oman]] 06:28, 28 January 2009 (EST) |
|
| |
|
| however, on MafiaWiki, i think it is totally appropriate to have 'articles' that talk about each ''player''... not every ''player'' will be a ''user'' (and least until JEEP implements the unified login) and will have a 'userpage', but every ''player'' 'automatically' has a 'username page' which is 'created' when they sign up (yes, i know it's not technically created until somebody puts text in the page, but a link for it still exists in their forum profile)...
| | == I hadn't == |
|
| |
|
| IMO, the 'userpage' should be used if a ''user'' wants to give personal information about themselves such as Mr Frosty did on Wikipedia... included on that page could be a list of articles that ''user'' has contributed to, etc... the 'username page' should be used to give information about a ''player'', such as where their username/custom title comes from, their playing and/or modding record(s), win/loss ratio, etc...
| | But I certainly will before knocking over anything else. Thanks a bunch. |
|
| |
|
| in a perfect world we would have a template for these pages (such as we should have for the games) in order to create a unified look, but the 'userpage' could be totally customized by each ''user''... what are your thoughts on this?..

| == Sorting ==
| |
| | |
| OK, so DEFAULTSORT isn't quite working the way I thought it is... at least not from within the template. There are two ways I see to fix this. The first is to use somehting like <nowiki>{{DEFAULTSORT:1, Open}}</nowiki> on each page directly (leaving the other categories in the template). The second is to keep DEFAULTSORT in the template and reorganize the way the pages themselves are done. Rather that having titles like "Open 5", you could have one page called "Open" and several [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:SUBPAGE subpages] ("/1", "/35", etc.). In this case, you use <nowiki>{{DEFAULTSORT:{{SUBTITLE}}, {{BASEPAGENAME}}}}</nowiki> to sort correctly. That all I can think of for now. I hope I've helped! IMO, this should be used to describe the role directly rather than link to a spot on the same page (or often on the same screen). | so, i was thinking about protecting the pages that seem to be targeted the most by spammers... for example [[Talk:Mafia]]... i protected it from being edited by unregistered users & being moved by only sysops... what do you think about this idea?.. do you think that they'll just move to another page, or do you think this will help control it?..<br/>-- [[User:LyingBrian|Lying]][[User_talk:LyingBrian|Brian]] 00:40, 28 August 2007 (MDT)

Wiki Block Too?
So why block MMM from the wiki too? What harm can he do to the wiki as he is not a sysop? I do fully agree with the idea if they were a sysop but otherwise it makes no sense.--MafiaSSK 20:09, 2 June 2010 (EDT)

i noticed you've been using this template, so i wanted to let you know that i've made some modifications... i've inserted 3 optional parameters so we can show how long users are blocked for (default is indefinitely) along w/ an expiration date if it is not indefinite, and also why users were blocked (default is spam)... just thought you would like to know... also, i'm working on putting the non-indefinite blocks into a different category, probably Category:Temporary Blocks... let me know if you have any criticisms...

Spam Attack?
Hi, this afternoon Talk:Frequently Asked Questions was spammed thrice, would you think it's an attack? Check its history. Andycyca||me||What? 00:17, 7 November 2007 (MST)

I tried to upload a PNG file and no, it doesn't work from my compy either. — This comment added by DrippingGoofball (talk • contribs) 12:57, April 9, 2008
The game on the site in question works differently than on MafiaScum. It is known beforehand who the cop is and that he's sane. I'll provide links if necessary.

RE: Calling The Game
I've reformatted it and added some context to it, so if you think it's worth moving, go ahead! somestrangeflea 14:26, 21 September 2008 (MDT)

Wow, I'm flattered. If you think I deserve it, then I'm game, although almost all I do here is killing spam. Thanks a lot, I'll promise to do my best. --Andycyca||me||What? 09:05, 26 September 2008 (MDT)

Thanks for fixing up that newbie game stuff, I'm still pretty new to this wiki edit job. I'd like to get into it more, got any suggestions or links that are great for practical knowledge?--Oman 06:28, 28 January 2009 (EST)
I hadn't
But I certainly will before knocking over anything else. Thanks a bunch.

- He's got good work from what I can tell, but he's only on his second game... I'd like to see a little more longevity before we grant him the keys. But keep your eyes open, especially since I'm not around much anymore. DGB? -- Mr. Flay 16:12, 22 April 2009 (EDT)
- Yeah, I know. But he's quite good at spamfighting and has done good so far. Maybe I shouldn't have said "nomination", rather "this guy's doing good". As with DGB... Initially I'd say yes, but I haven't seen much of her these days. Will keep an eye on both --Andycyca||me||What? 23:12, 22 April 2009 (EDT)
Definately a spam attack
Not really sure where to put this, but the spam blacklist has been under a lot of attack lately. I count 23 attacks in the last four days. What can I do about this, besides reverting to a good version and putting the blockme template on the page of the offenders? MichelSableheart 16:38, 14 June 2009 (EDT)
- Thanks for keeping up with it. I've blocked IPs from editing the talk page, that should help cut it down significantly. -- Mr. Flay 23:07, 15 June 2009 (EDT)

Can't acces site
Hey Mr. Flay.
Whenever I try to access the forum proper, I get this message on a plain white-background screen.
"Fatal error: Class 'bbcode' not found in /u1/www/mafiascum/forum/includes/functions_content.php on line 434"
I don't know off hand of any other way to get a hold of anyone from the site's staff. I'd appreciate it if someone could look into this, as I'm far from tech savvy. ._.
- We're looking into it... it appears to be an intermittent problem. -- Mr. Flay 23:22, 9 June 2011 (EDT)

Activation Email
Sorry if I'm not doing this correctly. I am EXTREMELY confused about how wiki sites work, so... I'm doing the best I can trying to navigate and figure out where to go/how to talk to other people on here.
All things aside, though, I have been trying to register with mafiascum.net for the last couple of days to no avail. I understand from the solved request subforum that someone has to approve my account, but does this include the activation email as well? Otherwise, I have not received one at all, despite my many attempts to resend it.
The only thing it tells me to do is contacting a board administrator, which I have no idea who they are or how to do so since it says I have to be logged into the site to see/talk to anyone at all. So I'm very, very confused on how I'm supposed to let anyone know. I've also noticed that there ARE new users everyday, so I know it's not that they aren't accepting new users.
My name on the forums is Eros. Like I said, I'm sorry if this isn't the correct way to get in contact with someone or if whomever sees this isn't who I needed to contact, but this is super confusing and I'm just trying to do what I can to figure this out. Thanks to whomever can/does help me, though. And if whomever sees this can't directly help me, if you could post this in the Help forum for me, I'd greatly appreciate it. (I tried posting as a guest, but it didn't work and only went to an error page.)
