Process Described
- After sign-ups are complete, post the thread with all the rules in it. In this, include a future time and date you know you will be on for using the RGAM.
- Just before the time is reached, use a webcam, iphone, etc. to record video of you randomly generating the list. If possible, show a clock or two nearby -- if you can find a TV station with the current time, even better. Record http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/ for example.
- Post the video on youtube that very day, first as a private video so that no one else can see.
- When the game is over, make the youtube video public and post the link in the thread.
Reasons for Using
This is not intended to be a statement against other moderators, but there is a fair amount of cynicism that moderators do not truly generate their roles to players randomly. While this process could be manipulated without too much problem, it would be inconvenient to do so. It's my theory that moderators bias their results because it's easy to do with no chance of being caught. This will at least eliminate the ease with which a mod can do this.
As a repeat moderator, it is essential to have the trust of your repeat customers. This is just one small step to take to keep that trust.
Finally, it protects a moderator against claims of intervening in player and role selection.
