A mob has formed
Mafia is a game of deception. The few vs. the many It is a game played entirely on the battlefronts of our own mind.
Mafia begins by gathering several people together, whether it is online or in the real world with a group of friends. The most common amount of people who usually play a single game of mafia is between seven and thirteen.
Once gathered, the game setup can begin. A moderator or some outside third party must step in and give people their 'roles' for this upcoming game. These roles dictate their actions in the game. But first, the game must be properly explained.
Mafia is broken up into day and night phases. The game typically begins on a day phase. A day phase is when everybody gathers around and begins discussion. They are discussing who will be 'lynched', or garner a majority of the vote, and will no longer be able to continue playing. Every player recieves one vote. Once a player has been voted out of the game, or lynched, or voted out of the town, everybody goes to 'night', a mythical time when the true terror roams. In night, the chosen minority chooses which player to remove from the game while every other player is unaware of their actions and who this minority is. The game thus continues.
You be wondering, what is everybody trying to do in this game. That is where the roles come in. Most of the people playing the game will recieve a role of a townsperson. A townsperson does not know who each other town in the game is, but they know the town is in a majority of players. What the townsplayers are looking to do is vote and 'lynch' players who are not town, and those players are commonly known as the mafia.
The mafia typically make up a small minority of the town, the only difference is they know every other mafia member, and during the night, they get the special ability to remove any other player from the game while all other players are unaware of their actions.
The mafia must kill or remove from play all townspeople before all the mafia is lynched.
At first, It may seem impossible for the town to deduce who is mafia. After all, mafia is a game of deception, a question of 'are you mafia' is going to return a 'no' every time. But their actions, and comments, will give them away (hopefully, if you are town, otherwise you're going to get steamrolled)
