A reviver can either refer to a player who can bring dead players back into the game, or less commonly a player who revives itself after death.

Since in most games players' roles and alignments are revealed upon death, Reviver is normally an unbelievably powerful role. Thus, Revivers are normally only seen in No Reveal games to prevent mod-confirmed innocents from running around.

Games with Revivers should not maintain hidden commentary threads for dead players except for those who have no chance whatsoever of re-entering the game.

If a game is not No Reveal but includes revival in some form, it is more likely that the revived player has secretly received a non-Town Role PM in the interim than that they are the same role as before.

Revivers can be Town- or scum-aligned, though scum Revivers are considerably more powerful as they can move ELo up a Day.

Standard version

A Reviver may bring a dead player back into the game by making them alive. Any player revived loses access to a Dead PT, but may post and act in the game as if they were an alive player again. Of course, a revived player can die again.

Any game with a Reviver in it should not have a spoiled Dead PT.

Variations

Some variations on Reviver require the Reviver to die in order to resurrect another player.

Use & Balance

In No Reveal games, the ability to revive players is potent and can allow the Town to drastically slow the rate at which its numbers go down as it tries to kill the right combination of players in order to win. However, considering that pro-Town players are invariably chosen for Night-kills and that eliminated players are dead because the majority of the Town wanted them dead, the choice for who to revive tends to be rather easy.

While Reviver is key to these setups, it is usually not important enough to warrant kill-immunity.

Self-Revivers are much more powerful than simply giving them kill-immunity due to their death flip confirming their alignment. However, much of the time these flips are setup for an alignment change, so it is unclear if this is really as powerful as stated.

Sample Role PMs

The standardized Role PM for "Reviver" describes the action as follows:

  • As an active action: you may choose a dead player. Assuming no interference with your action, that player will be brought back into the game as an alive player. (edit)

Example (simplest form)

Welcome to game! You are a Town Reviver.

You have the following active ability:

  • Each Night, you may choose a dead player. Assuming no interference with your action, that player will be brought back into the game as an alive player.

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.

Example (with modifiers)

Welcome to game! You are a Town 1-shot Reviver.

You have the following active ability:

  • Once in the game at Night, you may choose a dead player. Assuming no interference with your action, that player will be brought back into the game as an alive player.

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.
