A scum-aligned Visitor is normally best served by deciding on a [[falseclaim]] in advance, and then using their Visitor action to replicate the actions that they're later planning to claim having taken. For example, if you're planning to claim "Town Tracker who investigated mith night 1", you should target mith with your night action on night 1 in order to make the falseclaim harder to disprove.

A Visitor is a role that may visit a player each night. This action can be viewed by any Follower variant among other roles, but the action itself will have no effect upon its target.

Normal version

Visitor is a valid Normal role for any alignment. In a Normal Game, a Visitor may visit a player each night, but this will have no effect beyond visiting that player.

Variations

Visitor was originally called False Positive, a role that was under the impression that they were doing something but in fact were doing nothing besides performing an action.

Tourist is a special name for a Compulsive Visitor as seen in Great Idea Mafia.

Use & Balance

Visitor is a nominally-useless role. It does nothing, but by existing, it has power as a Named Townie. The Visitor is a step up from this: as it has an action, it can confirmed to be doing something by roles that can see actions happen, like any kind of Follower variant role.

Visitor is a common modified role. Consider applying Weak to a Visitor to turn it into an investigative role.

Play Advice

There is little that can differentiate a Visitor from a Vanilla Townie, however by not being a VT it can itself be considered a kind of power. If a massclaim can be beneficial to the town, consider insisting going after a player you view as scummy, as the town may end up with too many power role claims, making decisions derived Setup Speculation and Process of Elimination easier.

A scum-aligned Visitor is normally best served by deciding on a falseclaim in advance, and then using their Visitor action to replicate the actions that they're later planning to claim having taken. For example, if you're planning to claim "Town Tracker who investigated mith night 1", you should target mith with your night action on night 1 in order to make the falseclaim harder to disprove.

Sample Role PMs

The standardized Role PM for "Visitor" describes the action as follows:

  • As a targeted action: you will visit them (which has no actual effect). (edit)

Example (simplest form)

Welcome to game! You are a Visitor.

You have the following active ability:

  • Each Night, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, you will visit them (which has no actual effect).

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.

Example (with modifiers)

Welcome to game! You are a Loud Visitor.

You have the following active ability:

  • Each Night, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, you will visit them (which has no actual effect). Your target will learn that you targeted them (but not what action you targeted them with).

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.
