#Pick one of the three columns (A, B, or C) at random. The role from the top row is paired with a Mafia Goon to form the scum team.
The setup is determined by randomly rolling three dice with 3 sides each.  The first die selects the "mafia" Die.  The other two rolls determine which of the two "town" roles are to be used. a "1" result on the second or third die is re-rolled.

This is a departure from previous Newbie setups, because an earlier trial run of Mafia day talk strongly suggests that having day-talk leads to fewer Newbie scum replace-outs and greater conversion of Newbie players to long-term mafiascum.net players and members. It was not implemented originally because the setup was not designed for it and scum winrates went through the roof, but as this setup is designed for it, this should not be an issue (in theory).

The Mafia Roleblocker or Rolecop are allowed to both submit the nightkill and perform his Roleblocker or RoleCop action. The Roleblocker is stated to resolve before the Jailkeeper. This only matters in the case where the Roleblocker and Jailkeeper target one another, and even in this case only matters if the Roleblocker was also going to submit the kill (the end result being that the kill will not be jailed).

3d3 was a proposed Newbie Setup intended to address flaws found in the prior setup. The preceding Newbie Setup was Matrix6, but the setup contained a breaking claim strategy and the potential for major role-related apathy, and was thus phased out. However, after public discussion showed mixed opinions on the setup, it was replaced by 2d3.

Setup name

The name of the setup is derived from the way the setup can be generated, with the roll of 3 3-sided dice. 3 remains a core theme of the game, with the earliest possible game ending in a scum win on Day 3, and the setup having on average 3 power roles.

Setup

A B C
Mafia Roleblocker Mafia Rolecop Mafia Goon
1 Town Doctor Town Tracker Town Cop
2 Town Rolecop Town Roleblocker Town Jailkeeper
  1. Pick one of the three columns (A, B, or C) at random. The role from the top row is paired with a Mafia Goon to form the scum team.
  2. From each of the two other columns, randomly choose the role from either row 1 or row 2. These two roles are added to the town.
  3. Add 5 Vanilla Townies to complete the 7v2 setup.

For example, if the rolls came up as C, then 1, and then 2, the setup would become 2 Mafia Goons vs. a Town Doctor, a Town Roleblocker, and 5 Vannilla Townies.

In total, there are 12 possible setups:

  • A11: Mafia Goon, Mafia Roleblocker vs. Town Tracker, Town Cop, 5x Town Vanilla
  • A12: Mafia Goon, Mafia Roleblocker vs. Town Tracker, Town Jailkeeper, 5x Town Vanilla
  • A21: Mafia Goon, Mafia Roleblocker vs. Town Roleblocker, Town Cop, 5x Town Vanilla
  • A22: Mafia Goon, Mafia Roleblocker vs. Town Roleblocker, Town Jailkeeper, 5x Town Vanilla
  • 1B1: Mafia Goon, Mafia Rolecop vs. Town Doctor, Town Cop, 5x Town Vanilla
  • 1B2: Mafia Goon, Mafia Rolecop vs. Town Doctor, Town Jailkeeper, 5x Town Vanilla
  • 2B1: Mafia Goon, Mafia Rolecop vs. Town Rolecop, Town Cop, 5x Town Vanilla
  • 2B2: Mafia Goon, Mafia Rolecop vs. Town Rolecop, Town Jailkeeper, 5x Town Vanilla
  • 11C: Mafia Goon, Mafia Goon vs. Town Doctor, Town Tracker, 5x Town Vanilla
  • 12C: Mafia Goon, Mafia Goon vs. Town Doctor, Town Roleblocker, 5x Town Vanilla
  • 21C: Mafia Goon, Mafia Goon vs. Town Rolecop, Town Tracker, 5x Town Vanilla
  • 22C: Mafia Goon, Mafia Goon vs. Town Rolecop, Town Roleblocker, 5x Town Vanilla

The Mafia Roleblocker or Rolecop are allowed to both submit the nightkill and perform his Roleblocker or Rolecop action. As a result, it is possible for a Tracker to see them visiting two targets on one night.

In the event where Natural Action Resolution breaks down due to a circular dependancy, the order of operations for the interference roles is as follows:

  1. Mafia Roleblocker
  2. Town Roleblocker
  3. Town Jailkeeper

The Mafia team have day-and-night access to a private thread for chat (i.e. daytalk).
