About Zar
Welcome to my Wiki Page! I'm a regular player/game mod of Mafia in the Westeros Forum since 2011, but joined MafiaScum in 2012.
My preference of play is games that involve lots of flavor or that are heavy in mechanics.
I've also been part of Three Hydras:
1) Plessiezarus which is a Hydra of Plessiez and me.
2) BlizZard which is a Hydra of SnowStorm and me, and which apparently is faring better than Plessiezarus.
3) The currently retired House Lannister, which consisted of Myself +/- Sophie Baelish.Expecto Patronum took over Sophie's slot in the Hydra since she quit. (For references on Sophie's mafia quit read the Trouble at Wittlich Game in Westeros, linked in my modded games). This Hydra is currently retired until further notice.

Modding History
I like to build things. Mafia games are big puzzles that need to be crafted properly, and I'm a big fan of incorporating twists into games. Here are some of my attempts of building stable games. I also like to write flavorful scenes into my games, so I prefer themed games.

My first modded game at mafiascum. A clean sweep from the town. The Mafia JOAT was lynched on Day One, the second goon caught on a site posting lie. The third goon didn't have much to do other than self-hammer when the Compulsive Bodyguard successfully protected his biggest threat. This game earned a Scummies nod for best flavor. |
Micro 67: The Rocky Horror Mafia Show | |||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
A Closed Themed Micro Game for 9 players. Setup reviewed by Faraday, Plessiez and Regfan. | |||||||
Player Slot | Character Name | Role | Fate | Decision | |||
shos | Dr. Frank-N-Furter: Alien-Aligned Cross-Dresser | Mafia Modified Redirector | Lynched Day 1 | Alien-Aligned Win | |||
Johhog | The Criminologist: Human-Aligned Withdrawn Guest | Town Ascetic | Killed Night 1 | Alien-Aligned Win | |||
Nobody Special | Janet Weiss: Human-Aligned Chastise-able/Corruptible Virgin | Modified Innocent Child / Compulsive Jailer | Killed Night 3 | Alien-Aligned Win | |||
Robert2424 ← Expecto Patronum | Riff-Raff: Human-Aligned Handyman | Town Jack-Of-All-Trades | Lynched Day 4 | Alien-Aligned Win | |||
Maestro | Brad Majors: Human-Aligned Groom | Modified Town Neighborizer | Killed Night 4 | Alien-Aligned Win | |||
SnowStorm | Eddie: Human-Aligned Restless Soul | Town Modified Restless Spirit | Lynched Day 5 | Alien-Aligned Win | |||
Yates | Columbia: Human-Aligned Pervert | Modified Town Voyeur | Endgamed | Alien-Aligned Win | |||
Tammy | Rocky Horror: Alien-Aligned Boy Toy | Mafia Modified Motivator | Survived and Won | Alien-Aligned Win | |||
Pretty exciting setup based on The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Alignments were randomly sorted and flavor modified to suit alignments. The tweak in mechanic for this game was related with gender-bending, which is a story gimmick from the show. Frank-N-Furter (whos gender was defined as "unclear") had an ability allowing him to pose as any other player and mimicking their gender. Brad Majors was a specific neighborizer to characters who could pass as female. On a lucky strike, he ended up friending Dr. Frank-N-Furter and uncovering his lie about gender, ending in Dr. Frank's lynch on Day One. The subsequent days should have been increasingly difficult for the Alien-Aligned faction; they had a staggered kill which would limit their ability to shoot every night. However, Magenta's gambit over a night action on Brad ended in her Day Two lynch; Janet's alignment confirmation sanctioned her into not becoming a Compulsive Jailer and being untargettable, which made Columbia's action on her fail. Riff-Raff mis-used his role pm cop ability on a character his previous slot-holder had vanillized, resulting in further confusion for the Human-Aligned and their ultimate loss on endgame after disregarding Eddie had been basically cleared on Night One. This game earned a Scummies nod for best flavor. |

This is my first Normal Large Game modded in mafiascum. It was intended to be run at a faster pace than most games run there (with Seven-Day Daytime Phases and Two-Day Night time phases). I think the town played very solidly. The Vig made very good choices killing on Night One a distracting slot and on Night 2 a scum slot. Overall, they also had very good reads since the beginning. |

Well... 1632 had a rough start. It was originally intended to run during my birthday, but it kept being delayed because the normal queue was so large, so I slightly twitched the flavor to allow for an endless holiday, looping as many celebrations I could into the iteration of the game. This included beginning with Hanukkah and following with Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Years, The Feast of the Epiphany, Orthodox Christmas, My Scumday, Valentines, Mardi Gras, and Chinese New Year and proceeding with the Lent Carnivals. Holiday played interestingly, but definitely is not a setup I would repeat as a Closed Normal (despite being Normal and arguably being balanced in numbers yet tough for the scum in play. It has the potential as an Open with some slight tweaks I would like to work with, including an Ascetic for the Mafia, for instance. |

My first game as a co-mod. The flavor was based in Hanukkah and players earned abilities based on purchases and items they possessed. There was a dreidel spin on which players could gamble to get items. Unfortunately the setup lent itself to item hoarding and the evils were evidenced out based on anti-town use of items. |

humble serpent | Puppet | Christmas Merciful Battery Charger | Survived | Christmas Win | |||
valacirca | Rubber Ducky | Christmas Psychiatrist | Survived | Christmas Win | |||
My first game as a title mod. A bit broken since suspects were based on mass-claim by the Christmas team as early as D2. Some players had roles that required batteries. All investigative roles and the Bodyguard were told they could have insanity, but only one of the roles was insane. The insane cop opted for self investigating to discover her malfunction. The traitor (Toy Truck) flips innocent upon death and investigations, but should he decide on re-charging the unicorn, he would appear evil to sane investigations for the night he used his role. The truck only new about two of the three Mafia (Plush and Unicorn), but died if all the Mafia were lynched. He did not have factional communication with them (this is a fairly standard role in Westeros). |

KiDisaster | KiDisaster | Innocent | Endgamed | Killer Win | |||
Verboten | Verboten | Evil Guard | Survived and Won | Killer Win | |||
Slow-paced Mini game (for Westerosi standards) where the innocents lost basically because of lack of coordination. The evils were evident since day one, but they played so evidently evil that people thought it was highly improbable. Somebody cleared the evil Roleblocker accidentally and she coasted until endgame, claiming a false guard on one of the innocents. Even when another innocent did not go on to hammer him, the townie about to be mislynched continued pushing a case against him, which resulted in him being hammered. |
87.5: Trouble in Wittlich | |||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
A Semi-Open MiniGame for 12 players. Co-modded with Early Earl, and reviewed by Masonity and Piper of Chaos. | |||||||
Player Slot | Alt | Role | Fate | Decision | |||

This Mini ended up very quickly, as one of the killers was identified early on day one and got lynched early. The second killer basically gave up and never return to post, which resulted in him being modkilled for inactivity for a quick Town Win on N2. The killer was going to be the next in line to be lynched on D3. |

After "The Nightmare after Christmas" was broken by the Innocent faction, I decided on crafting a setup that would be unbreakable based on roles. Roles pre-built in game would be passed around randomly along players in this game, making it impossible to determine alignments based on abilities. Farring used her Ninja role on Scummy Buckler, who was an innocent read to most players, and with that took the Miller ability out of game. At the end of the journey, on day 6, the innocents lost to a coinflip, as Dondarrion decided to throw a vote based on the result from the coin. |

This Mini ended up very quickly. The killer got spared from being lynched on day one by claiming Guard, which the innocents thought was a town-aligned role. When mushroom flipped fresh, the Vigilante decided to take a shot and kill Pineapple. The Killers didn't realize the Vig had outem himself as a PR when he asked them role PM flavor to confirm they had a role. Sweet Corn was the only suspect from the clearance, and was cornered into confession on D2 as her lynch was inevitable. The Vig in the 12 player game made it a bit swingy; if the Vig missed his shot he could have made it a harder game from team inno. |

The setup was a somewhat modified version of the Paris II Mafia open setup. The winning conditions were such that only one team could win. The Mimes won only if they both got lynched. The evils had to Mime-Hunt to Night Kill them while mislynching innocents. The poisoner failed to claim, and was mislynched. Thus, the innocents lost on D2 the only means they had to remove the Mimes. However, the innocents only needed to lynch FM to win. |

The setup was a somewhat modified version of the Pick your Own Poison open setup, to adapt it to Westerosi balance standards. The two Titans (FM) got to pick the roles (2-Shot Tracker, 1-Shot Finder and 2-Shot Vig), and their Symp was unable to communicate with them, but was told what his Masters had chosen. The FM made a bad decision choosing the roles since they helped confirm too many players and paid for it. |

In this setup, killers were both Vengeful (Westerosi Ninjas) if they were lynched on Day One. However, after night one, one of them became a Mastermind and was the only killer that needed to be lynched. Every night, the killers could decide who was going to be the Mastermind. The other killer would be a Vengeful. They could not kill during Odd Nights. (It was a virtual tactic of adding two innocents in game). |

Probably the toughest game to balance I have encountered. 3 2-Paired Killing Factions and a Traitor aligned to all of them. Each Killing Team could kill once on N1 or N2, once on N3 or N4, and then every night. The first team to discover the existence of 3 Evil Factions was the "Teller of secrets" since there were no re-directing roles and their N1 kill failed, but a body showed up in the morning and another showed up on the following night. The second team to discover this was the winning team (Khalul). Bayaz only found out at the very end. Mina deserves a lot of credit for the victory of Khalul, since she replaced into a fast paced game with already 74 pages! Also, her alt had been reported as evil by a gambit from the Symp, but all the innocents ignored it. The innocents played a very weak game in general, and their chances finally dissipated when one of them decided to claim Serial Killer / Mafia-Aligned Cop. At the end, only one innocent and four killers remained, and a Mexican stand-off situation happened in which Khalul shot Faraday, and Tammy shot the last innocent thinking that Khalul's other member was a hider and would use his role to hide behind the townie. Faraday shot Piper, but he was bulletproof due to a passive ability related to his first kill having been successful, resulting in Khalul's victory by numbers. The Author of the First Law Series of books, Joe Abercrombie, paid us a visit during the game and gave us the heads up on the amusing situation in which his characters were encountered. That made Whiskeyjack swoon. |

"The Tourney at Lannisport" was intended as a newbie invitational, were players with little experience playing Mafia were given priority over more experienced players. We ended up having a few flakeouts and two very experienced players pitching in (one as a Goon and one as a VT), but still, the majority of the players had less than 15 games played in Westeros, and most had less than a year playing Mafia. |

Large themed game based on the TV Series Fringe. Players control alts that exist in two realities that are interconnected. Their alignments did not change based on the Universe they come from, but each alt could be granted abilities different depending on the Universe they belong to. You could switch powers by crossing a portal at night, or by being forced to cross by a Shifter. This game featured a factional Mafia conversion, in which the Shapeshifters could convert one of the Innocents to their faction as an apprentice (Regfan had replaced into a town slot and got converted, so LOL about that one). Monday was fairly evidently evil as early as day one, so she decided to gambit a Guilty Cop result on Arthur, who didn't react to well to it from a Town perspective. This led the innocents to believe they had encountered The Mastermind (flavorful name for the Sympathizer role introduced as a "red-herring" in the possible setup), and led to the Wild Goose chase of players who could have been Arthur's Masters. The Setup had a few crazy roles that never got to be used, (including one that would make Vanish every post made by a given player after death!) much to the sadness of the mods. There was a big interest in the Mechanics (Glimmerers, for example could detect if someone would have lied about the alt they were controlling, since they could sense players from different worlds). Humans were VTs, and any player could have been a VT in one universe, or both. |

"The Margaery", as I've nicknamed this setup, inteded to mimic the wedding-related events in George Martins Third Book from the Saga A Song of Ice and Fire ('A Storm of Swords'). The game was launched to celebrate the third season of HBO's series Game of Thrones. As part of the setup theme, players were to vote for one player who would arrange two weddings. Basically, the "pact advisor" functioned as a flavored Neighbormaker. If one of the player's bethrothed was killed before the wedding was "consumated", they were allowed to pick another player to marry into their neighborhood. |
