I've added the phantom 25-50 Newbie games (albeit a short description, since they were played in 2004 and nobody cares any more), but now the <nowiki>{{newbiegames}}</nowiki> template works. I've also added about 5-10 other Scummers' pages. I think once they get up over 5 links to them, that we should just create a basic "This is a scummer that joined November 12, 1997"-type page, so that there aren't a bunch of broken links out there. Users with less than five links we shouldn't have to worry about.

Right, I've moved the wiki flat files over to /mafiawiki and moved MediaWiki to /wiki. The change on the wiki shouldn't be noticeable unless I've messed something up (jeep might want to check to make sure I haven't...).

== User override for skins? ==

I don't have a lot of experience with CSS, but I was going to try and experiment a bit with the skins. It doesn't appear, though, that this installation of the MediaWiki software imports the user's CSS overrides ([[User:<blah>/<skinname>.css]]). It'd make experimenting a lot easier without someone having to edit the site-wide css ;). (apparently I didn't sign, before --[[User:Azkar|Azkar]] 12:22, 2 February 2007 (MST))
:Yeah, according to http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:User_style#General it's not turned on by default, I'll see if jeep/mith think it's a good idea. -- [[User:Mr. Flay|Mr.]] [[User_talk:Mr. Flay|Flay]] 14:12, 1 February 2007 (MST)

Apart from the ones mith suggested I'd like a Community, and a Mish-Mash category. (Mish-Mash is for rules of common Mish-Mash games, Community is for all sorts of articles that don't really have a direct connection to the game, nor to a specific player (Examples: MeMeMeet, Scummie, History of mafiascum.net). Furthermore, I suggest to split what mith called Rules/Gameplay into two different categories: Rules and Strategy or something.... (I'm not particularly happy with the name 'Rules', stuff like newbie guides should go there too, who can think of something better?)

I left out "Theory", which is where I would put Strategy type stuff (metagame stuff, logical fallacies, etc.). What I meant by Gameplay was terms such as "Day Start", or even just very basic stuff like "Lynch", "Deadline", etc.

All names are of course subject to change.

:Probably, since all redlinks there are actual wiki pages on the old wiki. When the [wiki] tag is flipped over we don't want any confusion, right? :::Ehhh, I could take a miss on that one. I never actually loaded the page before...feel free to drop it from the list if it doesn't make sense to you. :I definitely like having a Mish-Mash category; Community sounds like it could encompass quite a bit at present, maybe we should roll that one around for a bit in our brains. It's relatively easy for someone with sysop rights to delete old categories if they turn out to be a crappy system, and anyone can reorganize any unprotected pages, so that doesn't seem too big a deal. I created some of the basic-duh ones tonight, check out [[Special:Categories]] and [[:Category:Categories]]. -- [[User:Mr. Flay|Mr.]] [[User_talk:Mr. Flay|Flay]] 01:50, 21 September 2006 (MDT)

mith, we probably need to visit renaming a few of the namespaces (well, one, anyway). [[Project:]] got set to '''Mafia Wiki Test''' during the testing, but I think it has to be changed at the configuration level (unless I just can't find the MediaWiki file). What do we want to call it? For example, Wikipedia calls this their '''Wikipedia:''' namespace, A Wheel of Time wiki uses '''Wotwiki:''', and the Psychology Wiki on Wikia just uses... '''Psychology Wiki:'''. I'm fond of anything that doesn't include spaces, just cuz it's easier for me to type, but I don't have strong feelings. Maybe '''MafiaWiki:'''? -- [[User:Mr. Flay|Mr.]] [[User_talk:Mr. Flay|Flay]] 01:48, 21 September 2006 (MDT)

== Stoofer's random thoughts about the new Wiki ==

:''moved from [[User_talk:Mr. Flay]]''
For want of a better place, I thought this would be a good spot to note down some of the thoughts I've had about the new wiki, now that I've been playing with it for a couple of hours
# It seems to me to be pretty far advanced - what's stopping you from making it go live and freezing the old wiki completely
# Will [wiki] tags on the forum point here?
# Is the picture set in stone?  Why not have the forum logo?
# Why can't we upload (not complaining as such, I'd just be interested in the reasons)
# Who are the sysops and what are their powers (I know what a sysop is)?
# Is it OK to pester you with these sorts of questions?

[[User:Mr Stoofer|Stoofer]] 10:06, 31 January 2007 (MST)
:# mith just locked the old wiki from editing and we should be able to swap the links pretty soon. My work has exploded on me so I haven't been able to do much transwiki'ing lately as I'd like, so I'm really glad to see other people stepping up. :)
:# yep, that's a simple code switch I'm told.
:# No, I think that was more a test edit to have something there when the then-test wiki was set up. We could certainly talk about swapping it for something more useful.
:# I'm not sure if mith is comfortable with adding that capability or not. Will see if he'll weigh in on it, as I would find it useful too.
:# See [[Special:Listusers]]. IP/anonymous users can edit most pages. Regular logged in users can edit almost any page, make their own custom CSS/javascript, keep a watchlist of articles they like to watch for changes in, have a talk page, etc.  Sysops can protect/unprotect pages from general editing, delete/undelete pages, block/unblock users/spammers (incl. IPs if needed), edit the MediaWiki interface pages like the sidebar and page headers/footers, and the global CSS/javascript. Bureaucrats can make more sysops. I'm sure there's other actions, but those are the most common ones.

Wanted Pages

I've added the phantom 25-50 Newbie games (albeit a short description, since they were played in 2004 and nobody cares any more), but now the {{newbiegames}} template works. I've also added about 5-10 other Scummers' pages. I think once they get up over 5 links to them, that we should just create a basic "This is a scummer that joined November 12, 1997"-type page, so that there aren't a bunch of broken links out there. Users with less than five links we shouldn't have to worry about.

From the PM:

Right, I've moved the wiki flat files over to /mafiawiki and moved MediaWiki to /wiki. The change on the wiki shouldn't be noticeable unless I've messed something up (jeep might want to check to make sure I haven't...).

Anyway, Mr. Flay and I have been playing a bit with MediaWiki, but now I want to invite the newly formed Wiki Group to register and test as well. Once you've registered we'll set you up as a Sysop (you'll probably only ever need this added access for the few protected pages we might have).
Before we get started on the bulk of the moving, there's probably a few things we should discuss, such as:
Categories - What categories do we need? (Roles, Rules/Gameplay, Games, Setups, Users, Forum, Wiki... what else?) Format and Style - How should pages be formatted? Within a category, I'd like to keep things pretty standard. Also some style conventions... how to name pages, stuff like that. Stuff We Should Have - I've mentioned one above; I'd really like to see us start getting some information on the games we've played on the wiki. I think one of the next things I will play with is making pages for the Open Games... mess around with the format and such. Likewise with the setups, I'd like to get the various Open Setups from the discussion thread on the wiki for easy reference. What else?

Anyway, that's enough to get us started for now.
